Every egg donation journey is a little different, so timelines can vary. However, we want you to have a clear idea of what the process typically looks like.
Step 1: Preparation and Medical Screening (Approximately 1.5–2 Months)Once you've submitted your application and received preliminary approval, the medical screening process begins.
One of the key steps is genetic testing, and results may take several weeks to come back. Depending on the fertility clinic's requirements and the intended parents' preferences, additional tests or medical consultations may be needed.
Once all required test results are available and you've been medically cleared, we'll coordinate the start of your donation cycle based on your menstrual cycle and the clinic's schedule.
Preparation may take longer if a match with intended parents has not yet been finalized.
Step 2: Your Donation Cycle (Typically Up to 3 Weeks)- 10–12 days — Ovarian stimulation. You'll take fertility medications prescribed by your doctor while the medical team monitors follicle development through ultrasounds and bloodwork.
- Approximately 2 days — Final preparation for egg retrieval. Your fertility specialist will carefully time the final stages of egg maturation and schedule your retrieval procedure.
- Egg retrieval day. Your mature eggs will be collected at the fertility clinic under sedation or anesthesia.
- Up to 5 days — Planned recovery and follow-up. We allow time for you to stay near the clinic so your medical team can monitor your recovery and make sure you're doing well. The actual length of your recovery and follow-up will depend on your doctor's recommendations.
Throughout the entire process, your ALVIA coordinator will help manage your schedule, travel arrangements, and communication with the clinic.
We'll also explain in advance when you'll need to be at the clinic and which parts of the process may be completed closer to home.
